Onward Israel is a resume-building internship experience matching your skills, interests, and ambitions. Work 4-5 days a week alongside Israeli peers and immerse yourself in the heart of Tel Aviv along the Mediterranean Coast. Beyond the internship, you'll take part in eye-opening day trips, overnight journeys, and exciting seminars. In your free time, you'll be able to explore Israel's amazing nightlife, iconic beaches, and vibrant culture with a cohort of your peers.

LOOKING AHEAD – SECURITY UPDATE

While Israel remains engaged in a border conflict, the rhythm of daily life has returned to Israeli society as a whole. Children go to school, adults go to work, and Birthright Israel has already resumed its classic 10-day tours.

Although the gravity of this moment lingers, we expect the Onward Summer 2024 season will proceed as scheduled.

Even under the current conditions, Onward internship programs can proceed safely and securely, in line with Israeli civil defense guidelines and with the effective protection of the Iron Dome. If conditions change, and we do not believe that we can responsibly offer our programs in the future, we will postpone them until safer times and the participation fee will be refunded.

A separate process applies for Onward Fellowship programs

Choose the internship track that's right for you and complete the commitment-free application (see above).

We'll invite you for an interview to discuss your internship objectives, answer your questions, and get to know you.

Once accepted, a $999 program fee make it official, and then we'll get working on your internship placement.

We'll send you a planning guide to arrange your travels and help you get ready for your summer in Tel Aviv.

To stay on track, supplemental forms and documents are due within 30 days of your acceptance.

HOW REGISTRATION WORKS

How soon do I have to pay the program fee?

What other steps do I need to complete my application?

Upload a passport valid for at least six months from the date the program ends
If the passport is not valid, you must upload a document that indicates that you have started the passport renewal process
Upload a medical form completed and signed by qualified medical professional
Read and sign the Behavioral Agreement document
Upload a photo of your face in size 1.65 inch * 1.65 inch
The photo is used for the Bus Pass you will receive for local transportation
Upload the details of the flights on which you will arrive to and leave from Israel

By when do I need to upload the required documents?

WHAT'S INCLUDED

What is provided in the housing accommodations? What do I need to bring?

All housing provided by Onward Israel trip organizers are required to include basic furniture including beds, mattresses, pillows, blankets, linens and towels. All housing must also include a lavatory, bathroom, equipped kitchen (refrigerator, toaster oven, stove OR hotplate (Israeli kitchens often do not have both), cutlery, and crockery, and air conditioning. You will be responsible for your own cleaning (including purchasing cleaning supplies while on the program), though the housing accommodations might include some basic cleaning supplies (enough to get you through the first few days).

Am I entitled to medical insurance as part of the program?

Each traveler is covered by basic medical insurance only. The insurance covers illness or injury contracted in Israel, including treatment of Covid-19. Pre-existing conditions are not covered, nor are incidents related to or resulting from the use of drugs or alcohol. If you are concerned about covering pre-existing conditions abroad, we recommend purchasing this travel insurance plan with a medical benefit.

How will I move from place to place during my stay in Israel?

Will I share a room, and how are my roommates chosen?

How is laundry handled?

All Onward Israel housing will either include laundry services or have access to laundry services within a short walking distance. Laundry costs are covered in the overall program cost, however, solutions for laundry can vary by program (either through a laundry service, laundry machines in apartments, or a modest stipend provided for participants to do laundry in a local laundromat). If a stipend or laundry service is provided, it may only cover laundry to be done a certain number of times throughout the summer. Participants should consider this as they pack and prepare for their programs.

PROGRAM RULES

Who is eligible for the program?

- Applicants between 18-30 years old (or at least one full year post-high school at the start of the program)

- Identify as Jewish
- Have NOT spent 3 or more consecutive months in Israel after high school (this includes semester abroad, gap year, or any other MASA or Onward Israel program). Note: Alumni of Onward Israel programs (even if they are Masa eligible) are typically not eligible to participate in a second Onward Israel program. In some cases, this might be possible (alumni can check with Onward Israel staff on a case-by-case basis), but program subsidies will be significantly lower and therefore the program fee will be higher.

- Fluent in English

- Have a valid passport (must be valid for at least 6 months after the program end date)

- Previous participation in Birthright Israel is encouraged but not required

Can I participate in Onward without living with the group?

Can I join the program late or leave the program early?

Can I go on a Birthright Israel trip after my Onward program?

Can I go on a Birthright Israel trip before my Onward program?

Yes, and it's encouraged! Applicants participating in a Birthright Israel trip ahead of an Onward Israel program must join their group on the first day of their Onward Israel program. Applicants will be responsible for their own accommodations if there is a gap between Birthright Israel and Onward Israel programs. Birthright Israel participants staying on in Israel for an Onward program will be responsible for extending their Birthright Israel flight.

What about the security deposit?
